Origin Certification for Exports with Blockchain

What is a Certificate of Origin?

The certificate of origin is a document that certifies where a good was produced. It is mandatory for many exports and allows:

  • Access to preferential tariffs in trade agreements.
  • Demonstrate compliance with import regulations.
  • Add brand value ('Made in...').

The Problem of Origin Fraud

Origin fraud is a global issue:

  • Products falsely labeled as 'Made in Italy' or 'Denomination of Origin'.
  • Counterfeit or altered certificates.
  • Lack of traceability in the supply chain.

For certain premium products (wine, oil, coffee, textiles), this can represent up to 10% of the market.

Blockchain as a Solution

Blockchain certification creates an immutable record that:

  • Links the product to its geographic origin.
  • Records each stage of the supply chain.
  • Allows instant verification by the importer or consumer.

How It Works

  1. The producer registers the batch with photos, GPS, and documentation.
  2. Each intermediary adds their event: packaging, transport, customs.
  3. The importer verifies by scanning a QR code on the product.

Everything is cryptographically linked, preventing counterfeiting.

Use Cases

  • 🍷 Wine: Verifiable Denomination of Origin.
  • 🫒 Olive oil: Certified origin and process.
  • Coffee: Traceable farm-to-cup.
  • 👗 Textiles: Ethical and sustainable origin.
